Letter to Minister about Taxation Centre service counters

September 15, 2006

The Honourable Carol Skelton
Minister of National Revenue
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario   K1A 0A6

 Dear Minister,

I recently received a letter from Ian Gray, Director of the Winnipeg Tax Centre, indicating that the public services counter at the taxation centre on Stapon Road will be discontinued indefinitely effective October 10th.  This closure represents a troubling reduction of services by Revenue Canada for the residents of Elmwood, East Kildonan and Transcona, as well as a reduction of service to all Manitobans.

Long Trains

Thursday June 7, 2007

Hon. Bill Blaikie (Elmwood—Transcona, NDP):

Mr. Speaker, I rise today on a matter that I have raised before in this House and that is the growing length of trains and the subsequent length of time the trains take to clear a crossing.

Tribute to Lockhart Fulton

Wednesday October 26, 2005

Hon. Bill Blaikie (Elmwood—Transcona, NDP):
Mr. Speaker, in this Year of the Veteran, I rise to pay tribute to fellow Manitoban, Lieutenant-Colonel Lockhart Fulton who died last Friday at the age of 88. Believed to have been Canada's senior surviving combat officer from World War II, Lockie Fulton was legendary for leading the men of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles from the front, in hundreds of battles and skirmishes from D-Day to VE-Day, without ever being wounded.

Firefighters

Wednesday December 5, 2007

Hon. Bill Blaikie (Elmwood—Transcona, NDP):  Mr. Speaker, recently I had the honour to attend the Winnipeg Fire Fighters Annual Charity Ball.

I would like to congratulate Mr. Alex Forrest, president of the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg, Local 867, on a successful evening and extend my thanks and the gratitude of my constituents for the work that firefighters and paramedics do every day.

Tuesday October 23, 2007

Hon. Bill Blaikie (Elmwood—Transcona, NDP):

Mr. Speaker, I recently attended the 50th anniversary reunion of Winnipeg's Lord Selkirk Boy Scout Pipe Band. It was a great event but, as an alumni, the best part was the fact that the founding pipe major and instructor, Pipe Major Robert Fraser, was on hand to help us celebrate.
